(7) pp. Belg. Typ. 3320 (1 copy); not in Adams; Karlsruher Virt. Kat.; OCLC WorldCat; for the publishers: Rouzet, pp. 167-168, 230-232.Second copy located of an ordinance issued at Brussels by King Phillip II of Spain and his conseil Van den Houte, against highway robbers and other criminals in Brabant. It gives a picture of the dangers of travel only three months after Antwerp fell to Spain, and of the measures taken to establish security. It was no doubt aimed both at simple criminals who tried to take advantage of the chaos of the moment, and at Protestants still supporting the Dutch Republic who had gone underground with the fall of Antwerp. The leaves have been detached and mounted on hinges with some marginal restorations, without affecting the text. A rare ordinance on security measures after the fall of Antwerp.

Über uns

ASHER Rare Books celebrates its 175th anniversary!

In 1830 Adolphus Asher (1800-1853) in Berlin established the firm that still bears its name. He quickly became one of the main agents supplying antiquarian books to the British Museum as well as to eminent nineteenth-century scientists such as Alexander von Humboldt and Charles Darwin.

In 1933 the company was forced to leave Berlin and relocated in Amsterdam. From 1946 onwards the company has issued numerous catalogues in the fields of natural history, science and travel and voyages. After the retirement of Nico Israel in 1995, the new owner moved the company to its present location in IJmuiden, about twenty kilometres west of Amsterdam, where it now operates under the name of ASHER Rare Books. The management is formed by Michael J. Roos and Julius W. Steiner.
