(10 & 0 copies); STCN (7 & 5 copies).First edition of a seventeenth-century instruction book on surveying, including detailed instruction in mensuration and practical geometry. Bound with it is the first edition of Van Nispen's revision of Dou's 1629 work on mensuration, with a new appendix by Eversdyk (with its own part-title: "Tractaet van Roeden ende Landtmaten"), and with comparative tables of units of measure in different parts of the Netherlands. Van Nispen (1628?-1717) was a mathematician and certified surveyor who worked for the local authorities and as a private teacher, but he also worked as a bookseller and publisher. The first work explicity notes that it is intended for students, young practicioners and anyone who deals with land merchants. In the second edition Van Nispen notes that he wrote it as a study aid for his own students. Although editions after 1669 were usually bound with the Tractaet van de Roeden en Landtmaten, the present 1662 edition is more often found alone.A good copy. A valuable window into the practices of mid-seventeenth century surveying and practical geometry.

About Us
ASHER Rare Books celebrates its 175th anniversary!
In 1830 Adolphus Asher (1800-1853) in Berlin established the firm that still bears its name. He quickly became one of the main agents supplying antiquarian books to the British Museum as well as to eminent nineteenth-century scientists such as Alexander von Humboldt and Charles Darwin.
In 1933 the company was forced to leave Berlin and relocated in Amsterdam. From 1946 onwards the company has issued numerous catalogues in the fields of natural history, science and travel and voyages. After the retirement of Nico Israel in 1995, the new owner moved the company to its present location in IJmuiden, about twenty kilometres west of Amsterdam, where it now operates under the name of ASHER Rare Books. The management is formed by Michael J. Roos and Julius W. Steiner.
