About Us
Frits Knuf Antiquarian Books is managed by Anita and René van Elferen. They bought the 50 year old company in 1996 from Frits Knuf who founded it.
Anita van Elferen-Boerakker (born 1967) earned her university degree in the English Language in Nijmegen, the Netherlands in 1992. It took some time to figure out how to follow her passion for books and also make money - until she met Frits Knuf at the Amsterdam bookfair. Frits offered her a unique opportunity to learn on the job. After four years of fruitful cooperation he decided she would qualify as a successor. This eventually led to Anita taking over the company. Nowadays Anita works more and more with old and rare books.
René van Elferen ( 1955) is a chemical engineer (Eindhoven) who started his career in paint research. Gradually his interests moved to marketing. His final job before joining Frits Knuf was International Product and Marketing Manager at Philips Semiconductors, Nijmegen, the Netherlands. For him, especially the internet was an interesting challenge. He specializes in modern books (>1850).
In the year 2000 René and Anita decided to move from their space-limited house in Oss, the Netherlands to a private mansion in Vendôme, France. Visitors are welcome, please contact for an appointment.
