As normal with all colonial printings the paper is somewhat discoloured, nonetheless an excellent copy of 'the most important Cape York expedition ... recognized as one of the most adventurous in the history of inland exploration' (Wantrup). NOTE: In 1862 the Government decided to form a settlement at Port Albury, Cape York and to send out a detachment of marines to be stationed there. The formation of this post was left to Mr. John Jardine, Police Magistrate at Rockhampton, who decided to send his two sons, Frank and Alexander, aged 20 and 22, overland with a supply of horses, cattle and equipment. The diary of their interesting and important journey is contained in this volume. Assoc. newspaper clipping loosely inserted. Fine.
