Contemporary vellum with blindstamped spine and boards, with M*C*H*E and 1636 on front board, blue edges. Owner’s signature of Carl Aurivillius, dated Uppsala 1783, and a later exlibris. Fine. Schweiger II, p. 780. First edition. A second was published in 1634. The german philologist Pareus (1576-1648) wrote several books on Plautus. Carl Aurivillius (1717-1786) was librarian and professor in oriental languages at Uppsala, and one of the foremost linguists of his time.
