Somewhat worn contemporary calf, spine gilt with rasied bands, label is missing, and marbled edges. Book plate of Eric Sparre af Söfderborg. Atabey 218 note. Weber 378. Carlander III, 26. All published. The second edition, published the same year as the first folio edition (London). Only the first part of the manuscript of Chardins was published in 1686, dealing with the years 1671-73 and the first complete edition was published in 1711. The plates are said to be after Grelot, whom Chardin met in Constantinope and partly travelled together with. Chardin was a french jeweller, travelling in the East looking for gem stones. After his return he settled in London. Eric Sparre af Söfdeborg (1753-1791), ryttmästare vid Södra Skånska kavalleriet, död på Lessebo bruk i Småland. Exlibriset är variant 2, enligt Carlander, och torde enligt densamme i första hand dock hänföras till hans far, amiralen och presidenten i amiralitetskollegium, riksrådet Eric Arvid Sparre (1707-1775).
