Fine copy of the first edition. Descriptons of Busch’s journeys in the western states and the Mississippi Valley, especially in Cincinnati and the Ohio River towns. It also contains a chapter on life among the Shakers and the Mormons. Moritz Busch (1821-99) immigrated to the United States after being disappointed by the 1848-revolution in Europe, but he returned in 1853.
