Narrative of the shipwreck of the 'Wager,' part of Anson's sqaudron, on an island of the coast of Chile. Byron, a midshipman, describes the privations endured by the survivors who remained with Captain David Cheap, taken prisoners by the Indians and later turned over to the Spanish authorities. The work was used by his grandson Lord Byron, the poet, in Canto II of his work 'Don Juan'. Byron would later go on to become governor of Newfoundland and promoted to admiral in 1775.
