London Thornton Butterworth [no date]. (Hardcover) Very good. Octavo, bound in original dark blue cloth, spines lettered in gilt, front covers in blind. Numerous maps & plans, some folding, some coloured. Vol. VI has 8 photos. Vol. 1 has a tidy ink owner name, no names in other volumes. Yellowing and mild foxing to page edges; occasional minor text foxing; some endpaper tanning from binding offsetting; a clean, bright, tight and unworn jacketless set. Vol. 1, (1911-1914), is 3rd edition., 3rd printing May 1927. Vol. II (1915), is 2nd ed., 2nd printing, May 1927. Vol. III, (1916-1918 part I), is the 1927 first printing. Vol. IV (1916-1918, Part II), is the 1927 first printing (errata slip tipped in). And Vol. VI, [The Eastern Front] is the 1931 first printing. Full sets of Churchill's important history of World War I are difficult to assemble these days. A very nice clean set with all gilt titles clear and bright.
