Textkupfer "la nobil Donna Contarina Barbarigo" und mehreren teils halbseitengrossen Textkupfern "Numisma LXXXVI; Numisma LXXXVII; Numisma LXXXVIII; Numisma LXXXVIIII" mit allegorischen Szenen und Porträts (Solon u.a.). Leder der Zeit über 7 Bünden, etwas Rückenvergoldung. - Ecken stark bestossen, Kapitale beschabt und mit Fehlstellen. Seltenes, elegant gestaltetes Werk, eine ganz in Kupfer gestochene Gallerie antiker Orakel, Auguren, Sybillen und anderer mythologischer Gestalten, darunter Mercurius Trimegistus und Trophonius. Der venezianische Maler Giacomo Guarana (1720-1808), der mit Giovanni Battista Tiepole zusammen studiert hatte, stach auch einige der eindrucksvollen Portrait-Kupfer selbst. Die weiteren Darstellung stachen u.a. Alvise Povelato, Antonio Sandi und Vincenzo Giaconi. Der begleitende Text steht jeweils dem, von einem breiten ornamentalen Rahmen eingefassten, Bild gegenüber. - Ciognara 4711; Lanckoronska, Venezianische Buchgraphik, 133; Brunet II, 1773 und VI, 22615; ICCU (Online) UBOE002892; DBI Bd. 40, S. 251. (Wenige Bl. mit kaum sichtbaren Wasserrand ausserhalb der Kupferplatte, sauberes Exemplar auf starkem handgeschöpftem Bütten). An elegantly produced engraved gallery of ancient oracles, augurs, sibyls and other mythological figures, among them Mercurius Trimegistus and Trophoinus. With engraved descriptive text accompanying each. The Venetian painter Giacomo Guarana (1720-1808) who had studied together with Giovanni Battista Tiepole, also engraved some of the full-page illustrations, the rest were engraved o.a. by Alvise Povelato, Antonio Sandi, and Vincenzo Giaconi. The engravings are within a large ornamented border. - Few leaves with very light waterstain not affecting the engraving; a clean copy on heavy laid paper. - Contemporary calf, back on 7 raised bands, spine slightly gilt (corners heavily worn, spine chafed at head and foot and somewhat defective).
