THE BIRDS OF CHILE AND ADJACENT REGIONS OF ARGENTINA, BOLIVIA AND PERU.

1965-1967 1st Foreword by Dr. Alexander Wetmore. Two volumes. 104 color plates by J.D. Goodall, with numerous photos, textual drawings, and maps. Buenos Aires, Argentina: Platt Establecimientos Graficios, 1965 and 1967. First editions. Encyclopedic guide to Chilean bird life, based on Johnson's earlier work (1946 and 1951, published only in Spanish) on the subject, encompassing a diverse range of coastal, highland, and mountain habitats, extending into Argentina, Bolivia, and Peru. Johnson's authorial stamp to the front flyleaf of v.2. The front hinge of v.1 is starting, but still quite sound. Some general minor wear along the edges of the green buckram bindings. The dust jackets are a bit shelfworn, with a few shallow chips and tears, some light sunning along the spines, and a small patch of residue near each of the spine heads; otherwise a very good set.
