Muir, John.
EDWARD HENRY HARRIMAN.
1911 1st New York: Doubleday, Page & Company, 1911. First edition. Mary Williamson Averell Harrimanrequested that John Muir write this small book, which she wished to be a tribute to her late husband, the wealthy railroad executive and philanthropist Edward Henry Harriman (1848-1909). Muir, who participated in Harriman's famous scientific expedition (1899) to catalog the flora and fauna of the Alaska coastline from its lush southern panhandle to Prince William Sound, relates how he came to know Mr. Harriman, and how that acquaintance ripened into a lasting friendship. This issue was intended exclusively for libraries that requested a copy, and not for the general book trade. A brown suede leather edition was produced for private distribution by the Harriman family. Cream cloth binding, with gilt lettering, issued without a dust jacket. A fine copy.
