THE ADVENTURES OF A FORTY-NINER.
1971 1st With an Introduction & Extended Notes by Kenneth M. Johnson. Facsimile of a map of San Francisco. Ashland, Oregon: Lewis Osborne, 1971. First edition thus, one of 600 numbered copies. Daniel Knower (1823-97) set sail in New York for California on the ship Georgia on July 1, 1849. After crossing the Isthmus of Panama, he boarded the steamer Panama and landed in San Francisco on August 18. Stevenson in the lumber business. Green cloth binding, with gilt stamping. Issued without a dust jacket. A fine copy.
