1938 1st New York: The Viking Press, 1938. First edition. A collection of short fiction set in the rich farmland of the Salinas Valley, including the first appearance of "Flight," and the O. Henry Award-winning story "The Murder," as well as "The Snake" and "The Red Pony," two of Steinbeck's most famous short works. The first printing of this work consisted of only 8,000 copies. The usual bit of minor oxidation along the joints. Jacket moderately browned along the spine and somewhat rubbed, with the bottom corner of the front flap clipped; otherwise a very good copy.
