Muir, John.
THE TREASURES OF THE YOSEMITE.
1970 16 reproductions from periodicals and books printed prior to 1900. Ashland, Oregon: Lewis Osborne, 1970. Limited to 2,100 copies, distributed by advance subscription only. This article was the first of two commissioned by Robert Underwood Johnson of The Century Magazine to create public interest in establishing the Yosemite National Park. Eager to promote this grand plan to preserve an area that he loved so intensely, Muir wrote one of his finest essays. Many of its beautiful descriptive passages have become familiar and frequently cited quotations concerning the Yosemite Valley- "But no temple made with hands can compare with Yosemite. Every rock in its walls seems to glow with life." Sage green cloth binding, with gilt stamping. Small clip to the front flap of the dust jacket; otherwise a fine copy. Kimes, W.F. & M.B.: John Muir: A Reading Bibliography, #424.
