Charles Enoch Huse (1825-1898), a young Harvard graduate from New England, spent eighteen months in San Francisco (1850-52) before settling in Santa Barbara, where he became involved actively in legal matters in that early California community. His journal provides valuable information on life in the Golden State at that time. An appendix contains the first thirty-one pages of Huse's pamphlet, "Sketch of the History and Resources of Santa Barbara City and County, California" (1876). The Santa Barbara Bicentennial Historical Series, Number Two - Doyce B. Nunis, Jr., Editor. Red cloth binding, with gilt lettering. A very good copy.
