London Darton, Harvey, and Darton 1818, 2 vols. 100, 128 (8) p. 14 cm. 18th and 14th ed. Hardcover.Leather spine chipped, ft. cover loose vol. 1, vol. 2 has minor wear to spine head, owner's inscription, hinges cracked, minor foxing, in new folding box for sturdy protection. Copperplate frontis. in both volumes, vol. 1 frontis. dated 1812 "Little Ann and Her Mother", vol. 2 frontis. dated 1812 "The Welch Lad". Osborne copy lacking vol. 2 frontis. Osborne copies are same edition. First pub. 1804-05. Writers incl. Issac Taylor, Bernard Barton and Adelaide O'Kefe, who wrote 34 poems but was unknown to the Taylor sisters. Ann's autobiography states "Having written to order we had no control over the getting out of the volumes and should have been better pleased if contributions from other hands had been omitted". Jane wrote predominantly about nature, Anne about homey facts. It is considered to be one of the most influential books in the history of children's literature.
