Toronto A.H. Armour & Co. 1858, 151 p. + 3 p. opinions of the press. 18 cm. 1st ed. Hardcover. Purple cloth. Hinges cracked, spine sunned, corners & edges worn, some penned corrections in text. TPL 8675. McLauchlan was born in Scotland in 1818, and came to Canada in 1840. He spent most of his life in Ontario farming. Morgan's Bib. Can. contains almost two full columns on him. He states that McLachlan 'has contributed very materially towards the establishment of a national literature in Canada. His chief aim as a poet is to be considered the exponent of the views of the working classes of this country."
