Lexiphanes, A Dialogue. Imitated from Lucian, and suited to the present Times

London printed for J. Knox 1767, xxxix, 185, (3) p. 17 cm. 2nd ed., corrected. Hardcover. Full leather stained, back board is off. Bookplate removed, corners torn on p. 25 and 55. Campbell was a satirist and classical scholar. While at sea, Campbell read the 'Ramblers' and wrote Lexiphanes and Sale of Authors in response. Lexiphanes, the Rambler,’ was issued anonymously in March 1767, and was misattributed. He called Johnson 'the great corrupter of our taste and language'. (DNB).
