VENNOR, Henry G.
Our Birds of Prey, or the Eagles, Hawks, and Owls of Canada
Montreal Dawson Bros. 1876, viii, 154 p. text. 27 cm. 30 albumen photographs by Wm. Notman. Hardcover. Exlib., painted number on spine, spine edges & corners worn, bookplates, blindstamp on t.p. and on corner of all plates (not affecting photo), some warping of pages where the photos are (apparently usual for this vol). Vennor was a geologist, ornithologist, and meteorologist, born in Montreal in 1841. from 1865 to 1880 he was on the staff of the Geo. Survey of Canada, and his reports contained much of practical value. As an ornithologist, his chief work was 'Our birds of prey' (Ency of Canada). the book, unfortunately, was a commercial failure, with Vennor complaining that the book was "too expensive for Canada".
