FRANKLIN, John

Second Expedition to the Shores of the Polar Sea. London 1828

Dartmouth, Nova Scotia CD-Academia Book Company 1998, Arctic Discovery Volume II. New. CD-Rom. Franklin was the most successful explorer of the coast of Arctic North America. On one or two expeditions in the early 1800's, accompanied by a few Royal Navy officers, fur traders, Indian hunters and Esquimaux translators, he charted over 1,500 miles of Arctic coastal lowlands and almost achieved the discovery of the North-West passage. This CD reproduces the record of the Second land expedition commanded by Franklin in the Canadian North. Ot proceeded from York Factory across country to Fort Providence on teh Great Slave Lake and down the Mackenzie River. One party explored teh coastline westward almost as far as Icy Cape in Alaska. The second party completed a coastline survey between Mackenzie and Zoppermine Rivers. By applying all the lessons learned on the first expedition, they reached their objectives with a minimum of hardship.
