(HILDROP, John)
A Letter to a Member of Parliament, Containing a Proposal for Bringing in a Bill to Revise, Amend or Repeal Certain Obsolete Statutes, Commonly called The Ten Commandments
London for R. Minors 1738, 61 p. 19 cm. 4th ed. Disbound. Written by a Protestant with great wit. 'The Sixth Commandment...only forbids that clumsy, butcherly way of murdering, made use of by the vilest and meanest part of mankind; whereas People of Rank and distinction, who kill in an honourable Gentleman-like way, are no ways concerned in this commandment or affected by it.' This pamphlet includes the earliest use I have seen of the phrase 'old Women of both Sexes'.
