STOKES, A. R.
The Theory of the Optical Properties of Inhomogeneous Materials
London E. & F. N. Spon Limited 1963, xii, 95 p. 22 cm. B&w diagrams. First edition. Blue cloth. Hardcover. Dust jacket with bent edges and small chips on spine. Owner's sig. on title page. Although Crick and Watson are most commonly associated with the deciphering of DNA, Stokes was a key associate in this, the most important discovery of the 20th century. He identified the shape of the helix from X-ray analysis. Suggestions that he should have shared in Crick and Watson's Nobel Prize were dismissed by him, a humble and well-loved man. He was also a choral singer and pianist. A useful text for those interested in science, research, physical theory, biophysical and medical studies and microscopic structures.
