BARDANI, Alexander Angelicus

Index librorum prohibitorum sanctissimi domini nostri Pii septimi pontificis maximi jussu Editus

Rev. Camerae Apostolicae 1819, 351 p. 18 cm. Frontispiece present. Boards gone. Spine fully exposed, stitching still good. Inscribed on half title. Small stains. A list of publications prohibited by the Roman Catholic Church. The writers had a complex system of argument and defense when it came to including books in the list. However, the entire system was dismantled by the Pope in 1966. The current Pope Benedict XVI has in the past expressed support of the list. This edition includes prominent authors like Jonathan Swift and Rabelais.
