Original gilt-lettered red cloth. A fine copy with pictorial dust jacket. Heriot was the deputy postmaster general of British North America, and in this capacity had the opportunity to travel throughout Canada and the northern United States. Heriot's book is one of the most important Canadian travel narratives, and contains an account of his various excursions between 1800 and 1806. The second part provides detailed descriptions of many of the North American Indian groups, including material taken from Lahontan, Mackenzie, Vancouver, and others, as well as the Jesuit manuscripts in Montreal.
