Two-tone cloth. A very fine copy in dust jacket. The narratives of Captain Timofei Tarakanov and Ben Hobucket, a Quileute Indian. Two accounts of the wrecking of the Sv. Nikolai, a small schooner owned by the Russian American Company. It was marooned on a beach in Washington (Oregon Territory), where the castaways interacted with the natives - the Hohs, Quileutes, and Makahs. The narrative of Hobucket is transcribed from the Quileute oral tradition. Also discusses Ivan Petrov's fraudulent Tarakanov document.
