Blow, Ben

Jefferson Davis Abraham Lincoln Bowe

San Francisco Paul Elder and Company 1917, First book edition. Printed by Taylor & Taylor of San Francisco. Illustrated with 4 photographs. Stiff cardstock covers with integrated dust jacket. Tan jacket printed in gilt and dark green, color pictorial pastedown on front cover. Very small stain to bottom corner of rear cover, half inch tear to jacket at head of spine. Overall, a fine copy of this fragile and often-trashed book. Story of two little boys (brothers) and their make-believe Civil War, using their sister's boy doll as either Jefferson Davis or Abraham Lincoln, depending on which brother had control on a particular day. On Sundays, the doll was ordered to rest (by the boy's father) and on that particular day was given the common name of "Jefferson Davis Abraham Lincoln Bowe." Scarce, especially in this condition.
