Washington 1858, 35th Congress, 1st Session, Senate, Executive Document No. 40. 66pp. Removed from bound volume, stitched, unbound. Housed in Brown cloth folder, gilt-lettered label. A fine and clean copy. Browne's report is in the form of a letter dated from San Francisco, December 4, 1857 and occupies only pages 2-13. The rest of the volume contains J.B.A. Brouillet: "Account of the Murder of Dr. Whitman, and the Ungrateful Calumnies of H.H. Spalding, Protestant Missionary," pages 13-66. The letter by Browne is a general review of Indian-white relations from the time of Lewis and Clark. [Howes I: B-878; Howes II: B-873; Graff: 438].
