Conover, Richard E.
Give 'Em a John Robinson. A Documentary on the Old John Robinson Circus
Xenia, Ohio Richard E. Conover 1965, First edition. Scarce. 96pp. Illustrated throughout with photographs. Black cloth lettered in gilt on front cover and spine. Gilt lettering a bit "tarnished," minor foxing to front and rear blank endpapers. Overall, a fine copy. Covers this circus primarily from the years 1824 to 1916, at which point the assets of the John Robinson Circus were transferred from the third generation of the family that founded and operated it almost continually from 1842 through 1911. Excellent history of this circus, the longest single-family management in American circus history, known for their early 20th century small-town circus parades and for their extremely ornate animal cages, resembling "picturesque houses on wheels."
