Boston: Ticknor and Co., 1887. First edition, wrappers format, issued in Ticknor’s Paper Series of Choice Reading. BAL 5733. 8vo, original printed wrappers, [328] pages + 4 pages ads. Frontis and illustrations. ¶ Field’s first major publication, a collection of his humorous squibs and articles from the Chicago Daily News which poke fun at Chicago and the foibles and pretensions of its residents. Culture’s Garland immediately brought Field to the forefront of American humorists. Wrappers slightly worn; fine copy, enclosed in a green cloth clamshell box.
