KEYES, HERVEY

The Forest King; or, The Wild Hunter of the Adaca. A Tale of the Seventeenth Century.

New York: Wheat & Cornett, Printers, 1878. First edition. Wright III, 3082a. 12mo, original pictorial red wrappers, 63 pages. ¶ Despite the title, the plot is set around the time of the Revolution in the Mohawk Valley of New York. A Leatherstocking-like trapper is adopted by an Indian tribe and marries the chief’s adopted daughter. The Forest King was published in an attractive dime novel format, though it was not part of a series. Fine copy.
