New York: G. W. Carleton, 1880. First American edition, a second or later impression. OCLC records an 1879 edition of this title, also published by Carelton, in one copy only (Tennessee State Library!) and no other edition until 1898; there was no English book by Ms. Grant with this title, and it is assumed that Carleton pirated one of her works and changed the title. 8vo, original decorated green cloth, gilt lettering. ¶ Maria Grant was a popular Scottish novelist between 1870 and 1900, and all her books - though widely reprinted during her lifetime - are scarce in institutions and the trade. Cloth a little worn; very good copy.
