Paris: Chez Ponthieu, 1822. .One of two editions in French of Irving’s Sketch Book to appear in 1822 (its first year of publication in France, priority between the two is not known), apparently translated from the 1820 London edition published by Miller and Murray: the two sketches in that English edition (“Traits of Indian Character” and “Philip of Pokanoket”) which are not present in the earlier American edition are included here Langfeld & Kleinfield, page 67. 2 vols, 8vo, contemporary purple quarter calf, marbled sides, gilt lettering. Calf a little rubbed; some light foxing; very good copy.
