IRVING, WASHINGTON

Poems. By William Cullen Bryant, an American. Edited by Washington Irving.

London: J. Andrews, 1832. First edition. BAL 10134; Langfeld & Blackburn, page 53. 8vo, contemporary polished purple calf with the crest of Francis Egerton gilt-stamped on the front and rear covers, gilt decorated and lettered spine. ¶ In addition to minor alternations in the poems, Irving wrote a four-page dedication to Samuel Rogers. Inscribed on the front blank by the publishers to Lord F. L. Gower, “with the publisher’s respects.” Gower, later Egerton, was a poet and statesman and probably acquaintance of Irving’s. See the DNB. Edges and spine a bit rubbed and faded; very good copy.
