FLEET, CHARLES

Tales and Sketches for Fire-Side Reading.

London: R. Washbourne, 1870. Apparently the second edition, preceded by an edition in 1849. Not in Wolff; the NUC records one copy (CtU) of the 1849 edition, none of this edition; the BMC confirms there were two editions. 8vo, original green cloth (soiled), gilt lettering. ¶ A curious collection of 14 short stories and Irvingesque sketches, which seem to be Scottish in nature. Fleet, about whom little is recorded, also wrote Glimpses of Our Ancestors in Sussex, First and Second Series (1878 & 1883). Evidently Washbourne published this book twice, with an interval of 21 years between the editions. Very good copy.
