HENLEY, WILLIAM ERNEST

London: David Nutt, 1888. First edition, large paper issue, one of 20 copies printed on Japan vellum (of which 14 were for sale, six for private distribution by Henley). Hayward 299 (describing the trade edition); Colbeck Collection, page 364, #3. 8vo, original cream boards, brown lettering. Title pages printed in duplicate, in different colors. ¶ Henley’s first book. This is one of the 14 copies signed and numbered by the publisher on the front free endpaper: “20 copies of this have been printed on Japanese paper / 14 for sale. This is # 9. D. Nutt.” Bookplate of Graham Pollard on the front paste-down, below which is the later bookplate of Mark Samuels Lasner. Boards a little rubbed; fine copy.
