Evans 22578; Wegelin 224; Hill, American Plays, 136. 8vo, modern brown quarter calf, marbled sides, gilt rules and lettering. ¶ A collection of Humphreys’ writings, with substantial material published here for the first time, including his play “The Widow of Malabar; or The Tyranny of Custon,” first performed at the Southward Theater, Philadelphia, May 7, 1790. Also present are all of Humphreys’ major poems to date (“The Armies of America,” “The Happiness of America,” “Mount Vernon, An Ode,” etc.). Edges of the title page and final page of text a little browned; very good copy.
