Newman, John Henry

The Definition of a Gentleman . . . Printed for My Dear Friend Samuel Lilienthal on the Occasion of His Fiftieth Birthday, August First, 1934.

(San Francisco: Printed for Mrs. John L. Walter by Edwin and Robert Grabhorn, July 1934.) First Grabhorn Press edition, “one copy printed on vellum.” This, however, is a copy printed on paper, of which the Grabhorns apparently did a few copies for other members of the Walter and Lilienthal families. Not in Magee, Bibliography of the Grabhorn Press. Folio, original tan cloth spine, gray-green boards, untrimmed. ¶ A handsome birthday keepsake between friends of two of San Francisco’s prominent families who were closely associated with the Grabhorns, Albert Bender, the Book Club of California, the Hand Book Binders, etc. Bookplate on the front paste-down of Paul and Marjorie Bissinger. Marjorie Bissinger was the daughter of Florence Walter. In fine condition.
