Second edition, preceded by the first of earlier the same year, which was published in an edition of 368 copies in folio and by subscription; this second edition is the first trade edition. Lowe, English Theatrical Literature, 3943; NCBEL III, 386. 8vo, later (circa 1850) blind-stamped green cloth, gilt lettering, edges untrimmed and partially unopened. Folding frontispiece. ¶ The work which brought William Henry Ireland's Shakespeare forgeries into full public view and scrutiny and which also brought about his eventual confession. Fine copy.
