BAL 13478; Wright II, 1591; Sabin 42467. 2 vols, 8vo, original blind-stamped purple cloth, gilt lettering. ¶ The first book, preceded by a pamphlet on religious matters, by the older brother of James Russell Lowell. Robert Traill Spence Lowell was a highly regarded author in his own right, and The New Priest at Conception Bay - an autobiographical novel about his experiences as a priest in Newfoundland - is considered his best work. Spines faded; cloth a little worn; a few signatures starting; very good copy.
