MOORE, FRANK, COMPILER

Songs and Ballads of the American Revolution. With Notes and Illustrations by . . .

New York: D. Appleton, 1856. First edition. Sabin 50369. 12mo, original blind-stamped brown cloth (recased and rebacked), gilt lettering. Frontis and engraved title. ¶ A collection of over ninety works of verse that appeared during the American Revolution, and the first book of many historically significant works compiled and edited by Frank Moore (1828-1904). This copy has an interesting association: from the library of American historian Francis Parkman, with his signature ("F. Parkman / January 1, 1856") on the front blank. Parkman's library was left to Harvard, who later deaccessioned as duplicates numerous works from that gift, and this copy bears some of those markings.
