GRATTAN, THOMAS COLLEY

High-Ways and By-Ways; or, Tales of the Roadside, Picked Up in the French Provinces. By a Walking Gentleman. Third Series.

London: Henry Colburn, 1827. First edition. NCBEL III, 728; not in Wolff or Sadleir, both of whom had other titles by Grattan. 3 vols, 8vo, contemporary white half vellum, marbled paper sides, endpapers and edges, black morocco labels, gilt decorated and lettered spines. ¶ The final installment in Grattan's Irvingesque tales of France, sketches that were in fact inspired by Washington Irving; the first series was dedicated to him. Grattan (1792-1864) was a talented, versatile and prolific miscellaneous author. See the DNB. A fine, handsome copy; a nice as one could expect.
