Paris: Calmann Levy, 1895. First edition. 8vo, original printed yellow wrappers and glassine wrapper, 304 pages. ¶ Tales based on Italian historical characters and events. Inscribed on the half-title to "Fernand Calmettes / son vieil ami / Anatole France." Fernand Calmettes (1846-1914) was a writer and editor who was especially active in preparing memoirs for publication. Books inscribed by Anatole France are surprisingly uncommon. Spine cracked and disintegrating; front flyleaf detached; very good copy, enclosed in a chemise and quarter morocco slipcase.
