BLACKALL, OFFSPRING

The Sufficiency of a Standing Revelation. A Sermon Preach'd at the Catholic-Church of St. Paul . . .

London: Printed by J. Leake, for Walter Kettilby, 1700. First edition. Wing B-3054. OCLC records 12copies. 8vo, disbound in recent wrappers, 24 pages. ¶ The first sermon in Blackall's series of the Boyle lectures. Robert Boyle (1627-1691) was a 17th century natural historian who endowed a series of lectures which were intended to give prominent academics a forum to discuss the existence of God. Blackall (1654-1716) was chosen largely because of his controversial debate with the deist John Toland and became known as an ardent defender of religion. Slight stain in the lower margin; fine copy.
