MOODY, WILLIAM VAUGHN

The Great Divide: A Play in Three Acts.

New York: Macmillan, 1909. First edition. BAL 14319. 8vo, blind-stamped blue cloth, gilt lettering.¶ An interesting play, allegedly based on a true story, about a Western outlaw who captures and marries a New England woman who is visiting the West, which Moody uses to contrast the crudity of the lawless West with the Puritanism of the East. Though published in book form slightly after The Faith Healer, The Great Divide precedes the Faith Healer by three years. It was originally produced in 1906 under the title A Sabine Woman and was Moody’s one great critical and popular success. Fine copy.
