Salem, Mass.: Charles W. Swasey, 1860. First (and only) edition. BAL 7523; Clark D83. Seven issues and “Extra” (all published), with a cover leaf and table of contents, [60] pages, in a folding cloth case (case needs repair). ¶ The Weal-Reaf was a short-lived newspaper, published for the Essex Institute Fair, which was held to raise funds to pay the Institute’s debt. Hawthorne contributed this story which was later published in 1883 under the title “Brown’s Folly.” Fine condition.
