Cambridge: George Nichols, 1848. First edition. BAL 13068, binding A. 8vo, original blind-stamped purple cloth (cloth somewhat worn and faded; light stain on the front free endpaper), gilt lettering. ¶ Political humor in Yankee dialect written in opposition to the Mexican War which originally appeared in the Boston Courier under the pseudonym of Hosea Biglow, with notes by Homer Wilbur. A second series was published during the Civil War, but in that case Mr. Biglow supported the Northern cause. Bookplate of San Francisco collector William M. Fitzhugh on the front paste-down. Very good copy.
