Spain 1555- 1622) who fought against the last Indians of New Granada before becoming governor of Portobello and of the Island of Margarita and governor of the province of Antioquía, Cáceres and Zaragoza, in colonial Colombia. On his return to Spain in 1599 he wrote this account describing in detail military practices, Indian customs and ritual traditions, geography, flora and fauna and along his general observations of the Caribbean region
