Baillière Brothers, NY: 1861. First edition. 8vo. 234 pp. Illustrated. Ownership signature "Geo. Luckley, M.D." on endpaper (long tear, but repairable). Laid in is a copy of an oval photographic portrait of a Union officer, inscribed on the rear in an unkown hand "Dr. George B. Luckley, classmate of Dr. N.M. Townsend, Medical director of this department during the War. A very brilliant man. Died from drinking soon after the war." Preface: "The purpose of this volume is to supply information upon those points in Surgery, Medicine, and Hygiene, which, as having relation especially to military and naval practice, are usually not considered in general treatises." Original green cloth (soiled), gilt spine title; light old tideline through part of the upper margin and considering the tear, still a good solid copy. An early Civil War surgery manual, with a nice association.
