[Havana?]: 1902. Patriotic printed bandana on cloth, 16 ½ x 17 ½ inches, celebrating the island's independence, a large central figure of a lady of liberty, with laurel wreath on one hand, a torch held high in the other, the country's shield and flag in opposite corners, all surrounded by a wide striped border. After three and a half years of occupation by American troops following the Spanish-American War, Cuba gained its independence on May 20, 1902, following the adoption of a constitution, when President Estrada Palma was inaugurated Not in Threads of History (but cf. 769 and 803 for similar bandanas celebrating Cuba's fight for independence). Not recorded on OCLC. Folded; a little foxing, but very good.
